5 Paths to Cross the Mountain (story)

A big group of people walking along came face-to-face with a huge obstacle - a mountain. They had to make a decision, and subsequently choose a path to get past the obstacle.
They needed to get past it, because they were running out of food, and they had heard of promises of endless and vast supplies of food on the other side.
The group split into 5 smaller groups, and went their separate ways - round the mountain via the left; round the mountain via the right; through the mountain; over the mountain; and backwards.
The group which went via the left found a flat road around the mountain. It was smooth-sailing and they reached their destination. They were convinced they made the right decision. After all, it would have been an utter struggle to get over the mountain, virtually impossible to cut right through it, failure to go backwards, and nobody knows if there was any road on the right-hand side of the mountain.
The group which went via the right also found a flat road. They, too, were convinced they got it right. They were worried for the rest.
The group which chose to through the mountain looked like they were in for a tough task - they probably had to dig right through it. But, amazingly, they found a tunnel - someone else had already made this choice before them and opened up a path for them. They just couldn’t believe how lucky they were!
The group climbing over the mountain were surely going to struggle too - it was a long and steep climb. However, a short way up, and they discovered the largest fields of food they had ever seen! Their original destination was the other side of the mountain, and their objective was food; however, with their new discovery, there was no longer the need to move on, and they set up a new home at the side of the mountain. Were the other groups okay, they asked themselves.
Finally, the last group backtracked and returned home. They had given up the search for food. But they were given a huge surprise - someone had brought large stores of food back to their original home, enough to last them for a long time, and with weather changes, they were able to grow food again. They wondered if the other 4 groups had made it to the other side of the mountain.

Five different groups of people. Each with the same objective. But taking different paths.
Each got what they needed, and each convinced that they have made the “right” decision, and uncovered the “right” path.
But each person can only walk one path, and he or she will never know what would have happened on the other paths.
Perhaps there isn’t any right or wrong paths, but just different paths.
